Looking for a fun brewery in Minneapolis? Check out 56 Brewing! Great atmosphere, fantastic beer, and food trucks!
I found 56 Brewing by sheer luck. It all started one day when my boo and I were binge-watching Yellowstone. One of the characters was making fry bread. I made a comment about how yummy fry bread is when he looked at me and said, “I’ve never had it.”
Excuse me…WHAT!?!?! I’m not sure how it’s possible to have lived in the Midwest for almost his whole life and never tried fry bread.
I knew I needed to remedy the situation.
So what does this have to do with 56 Brewing? Good question! To ensure he was able to try fry bread I started to follow a fry bread food truck, Trickster Tacos, in Minneapolis. Turns out they are parked outside 56 Brewing almost every week.

Where is 56 Brewing Located?
56 Brewing is located in the Marshall Terrace neighborhood of Minneapolis just off Great River Rd between 30th and 31st Ave NE. Parking is limited in the lot as it shares a small lot with We are Nuts and roasted nut store.
They also take up many parking spots for some outdoor seating and of course the food truck!
There are however many places to park on the street.
What kind of beer do they have?
56 Brewing is a small local craft brewery. Like many small craft breweries their menu changes not just with the seasons but also changes when they run out. Trying something new is part of the reason I love going to small breweries.
The beer selection at 56 Brewing is excellent. I’ve found that some breweries specialize in one or two different types, then have several different twists. Like they may have 2-3 lagers and 3-4 IPAs. At 56, however, they have a wide variety of types but only a couple of flavors.
The selection makes this a great place to meet with a large group of friends who all may like something different. Lagers, Pilsners, IPAs, Stouts and even a Kölsch! I love Kölsch beers but not may breweries have them.
We tried several different beers including: Hewing Kölsch, Crispy Business (a Czech Pilsner), Swift Kick (Hazelnut Brown), and Passion Fruit ‘ssippi Squeeze IPA (New England IPA). I loved them all! I’d have to say the Hewing and Swift Kick would be my top two choices.
Other than beer, what do they offer to drink?
They offer a few different options for fruit-forward sours, I know these are technically beer, but a lot of people who don’t like a more traditional beer, like fruity sours.
56 Brewing also has a rotating tap of hard seltzers.
If you are looking for something with no alcohol, they also have your back. In fact, they brew a non-alcoholic Kölsch! If it was anything like the Hewing Kölsch I tried with alcohol, the NA option would be well worth it!
They also offer several varieties of craft soda, root beer (made in-house), hop water, and a nitro cold brew.
Does 56 Brewing have food?
Ok food… Like I mentioned earlier I found 56 Brewing because I was looking for a fry bread taco food truck. They offer a few snacks inside like mixed nuts from We are Nuts (nut store that shares the parking lot), Ellsworth Cheese Curds and Von Hanson’s pretzels.
For something more than a snack, check out the food trucks. The trucks they partner with rotate so you will need to check their event calendar so see what truck is there the night you are going.
You can also bring your own food in if the food truck is not your thing.
What is the atmosphere like?
56 Brewing main bar area has a rustic industrial feel; think weathered wood, concrete, and shiny stainless steel. There are a few TVs around the room that air sporting events.
The outside patio reminded me of a backyard BBQ or bonfire party with wood benches, barrels for tables and piles of cut wood for the fire pit line the area.
56 also has a large room for both private and 56 Brewing hosted events. They call it the Barrel Room. There is a stage on one end and long tables with benches for a community style feel. Five vintage pin ball and arcade games draw in the kids and adults alike. Like Ms. Pac-Man? They have one at 56 Brewing.
There is also an upstairs Mezzanine room. We did not go up there but their website states, there is a 46-inch TV, three more pinball machines and seating for 30 people.
Should you try 56 Brewing?
Yes, you should!!!
The location is convenient and centrally located in the Minneapolis metro area. The beer was fantastic and the selection is sure to please most palates. There is a ton of space to spread out and invite all your friends. The venue is very nice and I’d consider renting it for an event.
Don’t forget the food trucks and with 56 Brewing hosted events like drag bingo it has to be a good time!
Check it out!
