As an avid traveler I’m always torn by how to make sure I can experience all a location has to offer and how to not break the bank. Often that means I look for more budget-friendly hotel options in an ideal location. Because the focus for my most recent trip to Las Vegas was dining we needed to save somewhere else.

The Excalibur Hotel and Casino seemed like a great option. It is inexpensive and in a good location so we booked it. I know it’s not the top choice for many Vegas travelers but we were willing to give it a try.

Excalibur Hotel and Casio’s unique medieval theme

The Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas immerses guests in a whimsical medieval fantasy, making it one of the most distinctive resorts on the Strip. The castle-like architecture is inspired by the legend of King Arthur. Complete with turrets, stone facades, and vibrant banners that evoke the grandeur of a royal court.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by an enchanting atmosphere filled with rich colors and medieval motifs. The interior boasts elaborate decor, including suits of armor, stained glass, and whimsical sculptures, all contributing to a fairytale ambiance.

The hotel’s location on the Strip

The Excalibur Hotel and Casio is located on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip at the intersection of Tropicana Ave and Las Vegas Blvd. It’s only 1.3 miles from the famous Las Vegas sign. Don’t make the same mistake we did though, 1.3 miles in Las Vegas is a lot farther than it seems!!! Trust me, we tried to make this walk on our first visit to Las Vegas. And while we made it, it was not the best decision.

Heading north from the Excalibur hotel, you will find many of the hotels you hear about most. Such as; MGM Grand, New York New York, Cosmopolitan, and the famous Bellagio hotel fountains.

The hotel is a quick Uber/Lyft ride from the airport and is very affordable.

Tips for exploring nearby attractions beyond Excalibur Hotel and Casino

Just outside the front gates of the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, is one of the free trams in Las Vegas. You read that right, free! The train runs between the Excalibur and Mandalay Bay with a stop at the Luxor hotel.

All three hotels have fun dining (and drinking) options but if you like sea life, you should check out the aquarium at Mandalay Bay. It’s amazing to sit and watch the sharks and rays swim over your head in the underwater walkways.

Luxor hosts one of the most iconic (and one of the few family-friendly) shows, the Blue Man Group.

Going in the opposite direction, simply take the skywalk across Tropicana Ave into New York New York, and check out a Cirque de Soleil show or the Big Apple roller coaster. The second free tram is accessible from the Aria Train Station just outside New York New York.

Excalibur Hotel and Casino shows

The Excalibur Hotel’s main attraction aligns with its medieval roots, the renowned Tournament of Kings dinner show. While we decided not to attend this trip, it looks like a lot of fun. The show is an exciting spectacle that combines a feast with jousting and live entertainment.

They are also currently the host for the Thunder from Down Under show…some of the men from this male review show will be out on the casino floor. Keep an eye out and see if you can get a picture with them. These men are put together…

If male dancers are not your thing, Excalibur Hotel and Casino is also hosting a Cirque de Soleil show as well as comedy, music, and sporting events. Check out their website for current listings.

What is the difference between the Royal and Resort Towers at Excalibur Hotel and Casino?

Excalibur Royal Tower Room

The simple answer is the Resort Tower is on the New York New York side and the Royal Tower is on the Las Vegas Boulevard side.

The longer answer is the Royal Tower overlooks the Tropicana Hotel set to be demolished on Oct 9, 2024. Over the next few years, the old Tropicana Hotel location will be under construction for a new Major League Baseball field for the Oakland A’s when they move to Las Vegas in 2028.

So for the next few years, it will overlook a demolition and construction site. HOWEVER, Excalibur Hotel’s Royal Tower is the newer (aka most recently renovated) side. We stayed in the Royal Tower. When you check in, make sure to see if you can get a room higher than the 14th floor, you will have better views the higher up you go.

Overview

Overall, the medieval theme at Excalibur Hotel and Casino creates a unique blend of nostalgia and excitement making it a perfect choice for families, couples, and anyone looking for something a little different. The affordable prices (relative to other Vegas hotels) make Excalibur a good choice for budget-conscious travelers too. Whether you’re exploring the castle-like grounds, enjoying a thrilling show, or using it as a home base for other events, the Excalibur is lodging you should consider.

Happy travels and remember the world is full of adventures all around you. Get out there and explore!
