Need somewhere for good food and cold drinks? Check out one of my favs, Lucy’s Burgers in Blaine, MN.
I love to try new places. If you ask me where we should go for dinner the first thing I do is search for somewhere new to try. It’s not that I don’t like any of the places I’ve been before it’s just that I love to try new things too.
Lucy’s Burgers is one exception. If I’m out running errands and feel like grabbing a drink for happy hour or don’t want to cook but also don’t want to spend time finding somewhere new, Lucy’s is one of the top go-to places for me.
Not only is it close to home, but the food is great and the rotating taps make for a unique menu each time I go.

Where is Lucy’s Burgers?
Lucy’s Burgers is conveniently located just north of Interstate 35W off Lexington Avenue in the Village of Blaine Shopping complex. A quick 20-minute drive from downtown Minneapolis makes this an easy option for anyone visiting the Twin Cities Metro.
The Village of Blaine Shopping complex is a mix of grocery, retail, services, and restaurants in an outdoor shopping setting. Lucy’s Burgers is on the Northwest side of the complex along Pheasant Ridge Dr. with the front door facing North.
They also have a second location in White Bear Township and a food truck!
What is on the menu at Lucy’s?
This may be a bit obvious based on the name but Lucy’s Burgers is known for their…you guessed it… salads. Just kidding!! They are known for their burgers!!!
They offer two different versions of a Juicy Lucy (a burger stuffed with cheese). One is a traditional Lucy with American cheese inside. The other is a Mac and Cheese stuffed burger. I have not tried the Mac and Cheese Lucy yet but it’s on my list for the day I’m really hungry.
Lucy’s also offers many other kinds of burgers and sandwiches as well. My standard go-to is the Bacon Blu or the Mushroom and Swill. Both are delicious and come with fries, chips, or cottage cheese.
They also have salads and a kid’s menu.
If you are looking for some happy hour apps they have you covered there too. I love the hand-cut fries. Order them Lucy Style and the fries are covered with bacon, cheese, sour cream, and green onions. They recently added one of my childhood favorites too, fried mushrooms!!
We used to eat a this dive bar near my house in rural Minnesota. And by dive bar I mean DIVE BAR. Not a bar made to look like a dive, a real live dive bar. They had the best food!! My personal favorite was the fried mushrooms followed closely by the fried cauliflower.
Lucy’s only has the fried mushrooms but I was transported back to the old days when I took a bite. So Yummy!!
What is the #burgercoma Challenge at Lucy’s Burgers?
The #burgercoma challenge starts with ordering a build-your-own burger with a minimum of 3 1/3-pound patties or a whole pound of hamburger. If you finish the whole thing in less than 60 minutes you get your name added to the wall of fame.
If you want to step it up and become the grand champion, you need to eat one more patty than the current champion in under 60 minutes. You will then get your whole meal free and your picture will be put on the wall of fame until you are dethroned by another burger-eating champ.
I have not partaken in this challenge but there are several photos and plaques on the wall of people who have.
What beer do they serve?
This is where things get fun, the beer! Lucy’s Burgers knows their customers like variety but not many bars can have hundreds of taps all the time. Not only is it that difficult to store but also you need to sell a lot of beer or it will go flat.
This is why the concept of a rotating tap came into play. I don’t know who first came up with this idea but it’s great for people who like variety!
Lucy’s has 18 rotating craft and domestic taps at all times. They have hard seltzers to IPAs and hard ciders to porters. Mix in some lagers, pilsners, ales, and seasonal specialties like pumpkin (not my cup of tea but others love it) and you get an idea of what beer they offer.
TVs by the bar display the current tap options and what taps are on deck. I find it easier to pull up the list from their website unless I’m sitting at the bar.
What is the atmosphere like at Lucy’s Burgers?
Lucy’s Burgers is a sports bar but don’t let that deter you if you are not a sports fan. While there are multiple TVs to watch, the restaurant also has a classy or sophisticated vibe. Dark wood bar and tables, cozy leather booths and chairs, and a stone fireplace give it a cozy feel.
You will feel great there in a T-shirt and jeans or after work in business casual attire.
Do they have patio seating?
As I mentioned in my previous post about Element Pizza, Midwesterns love their patio seating in the non-cold months. I say “non-cold” months because our definition of patio season would make some cringe. It’s not uncommon for someone to be looking for an open patio in early April if the temps are above 50.
Lucy’s Burgers knows this and yes they do have patio seating. Being a sports bar they even have several big-screen TVs outside. On the cooler evenings, they have space heater towers and a fireplace to keep things warm and extend the patio season.
Is Lucy’s Burgers pet-friendly?
OK, so I knew they allowed dogs on the patio. Every time I’ve been on the patio there is at least one if not two or three dogs with their owners. The servers always bring out a dog bowl with some water.
What I learned on my last trip to Lucy’s is they also have a dog menu. Yes, if you ask your server, they will bring a special pup menu so you can order a meal for the fur baby at the same time you order for yourself. No more sharing your leftovers. They can get their own food too!!
The menu can change based on availability but you can order anything from a smoked beef bone from the local butcher shop (Von Hanson’s Meats) to a chicken or beef meal. They even offer a vegetarian option!
Why you should go to Lucy’s Burgers in Blaine, MN
Lucy’s Burgers is a place where you can relax and just hang out. It doesn’t matter if you are at the bar or on the patio. You will feel like you could stay for hours. The rotating taps offer something for most tastes. They have a full bar as well if beer is not your thing.
The kid’s menu and pup menu show everyone in your family is welcome. The food is delicious and the staff have always been great. If you are meeting friends for a happy hour, celebrating a family’s birthday, or need a place for a casual business dinner, Lucy’s Burgers in Blaine has what you need.
