Are you looking for a great place to grab lunch in Fargo, ND? Head to Teddy’s Eatery in Downtown Fargo!
During a recent trip to Fargo, ND we decided to book a hotel downtown. If you missed it, check out my previous post on the Jasper Hotel and why I enjoyed staying there.
I did a lot of research on places to eat within walking distance. I’ll be honest, Teddy’s Eatery was not one of the top choices. But when it came time to have dinner it was pouring down rain.
Not wanting to walk too far and get wet, we decided to run (literally) across the street to Teddy’s Eatery. It turned out to be an excellent choice. Keep reading to learn more.
Where is Teddy’s Eatery located?
Teddy’s Eatery is located at 212 Broadway N in the heart of Downtown Fargo, ND. If you have never been to downtown Fargo, it looks like a stereotypical downtown. That is not a bad thing… It has old architecture with storefronts at street level and apartments above. Lots of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques.
Teddy’s location is across the street from the Jasper Hotel, and only a couple blocks away from other hotels like the Raddison Blu and the Hotel Donaldson (The HoDo was my second choice for lodging).
It is more or less in the middle of it all making it a convenient location for anyone.
What kind of food do they serve at Teddy’s?
Teddy’s Eatery has a wide selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches. Teddy’s is known for its Tomato Basil soup. While I didn’t try it, it smelled amazing. The salads looked incredible too, if I had a hard time deciding between a sandwich or a salad. The honey-smoked salmon salad with blueberries, candied walnuts, and goat cheese sounded amazing and the spinach, blueberry, and walnut salad with a huckleberry drizzle would have been good too.
The sandwiches however were calling my name so I had the Chicken Bacon Badlands sandwich which is a chicken breast with artichoke dip, provolone, bacon, and marinated tomatoes. My boyfriend ordered the walleye sandwich. Both were served with chips and were very tasty.
I have to be honest; we actually ate here for dinner one evening. While the food was delicious, we both decided it would be a great place for lunch instead.
They also have several appetizers I wish we had tried and the entrees looked great too. There are several gluten-free options and all sandwiches can be made with gluten-free bread at no extra cost!!
What did we have to drink?
Teddy’s Eatery has a good selection of signature cocktails, local beer, and a full bar for any cocktail you may want. When I’m at a new restaurant, if I’m not trying a local beer, I like to try their signature cocktails. These are often the drinks the restaurant is known for and while the bartender may get tired of making them, these are often made perfectly because of the practice.
We opted for the Cucumber, Basil Refresher which is vodka, cucumber, basil, and lime juice; and the Watermelon Mint Mojito which is a traditional mint mojio with rum and mint, with watermelon juice. Both were worth the stop.
What is the atmosphere like at Teddy’s Eatery?
Teddy’s Eatery is a unique establishment with exposed brick walls, weathered wood accents, tall ceilings, and original narrow plank wood flooring. I know that doesn’t sound overly different than other places, but the interesting twist is the deli counter. Yes, they have a deli meat and cheese case for making sandwiches.
The deli counter was the primary reason I decided to get a sandwich. If they were willing to commit to the deli meat and cheese for sandwiches enough to take up part of their dining room for a meat case… they must know what they are doing.
The dining room is small and seats about 20-30 people. They could add more tables but being spread out makes it a more intimate experience.
The back of Teddy’s Eatery is the Back Alley Bar, a cozy space with old mechanical pullies and gears left from the original building. A floor-to-ceiling backlit wine wall adds a modern touch to the antique mechanicals.
Why you should eat at Teddy’s.
Teddy’s Eatery and Back Alley Bar truly is a unique experience in Downtown Fargo, ND. A perfect balance of history and modern with a wonderful menu and tasty cocktails. This would be a great place for lunch with your friends. A lunch date with family. Or a place to relax after a morning full of shopping.
If you are planning a trip to Downtown Fargo, add Teddy’s to your agenda.
